1st Grade Elects Kid Presidents

As a part of the 1st grade common core social studies standards, students are required to learn about how to participate in the community.  To demonstrate community participation, two of our 1st grade teachers, Mrs Hill and Ms. Patel, had their students participate in a mock election on November 8th, Election Day.  This was a fun and memorable way to show students how to be active members of society and demonstrate the importance and meaning of voting.

Our 1st grade students experienced all aspects of the election process including; students running for class president, voting on preliminary candidates, filling out voter registration cards and casting their final ballot in the classwide presidential election.  After all of the votes were counted, Obed K. was elected class president from 1B and Sumaya J. was elected class president from 1D.
